Patient Information

Botox is a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the muscles. Whether you’re visiting Butterfly Aesthetics Medical Spa or another provider, it’s important to follow before and aftercare instructions to maximize results and minimize side effects. Here’s a general guide:

 Before care for Botox

1. Consultation:

   – Schedule a consultation to discuss your goals and medical history. Ensure you disclose any medications, allergies, and past medical conditions.

2. Medications:

   – Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil, for at least 5-7 days before the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising. Always consult with your healthcare provider before stopping any prescribed medication.

3. Alcohol and Tobacco:

   – Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before the treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising. Reducing tobacco use can also help with healing.

4. Skincare Treatments:

   – Refrain from facials, peels, microdermabrasion, or other skin treatments for at least a week before your Botox appointment.

5. Wellness:

   – Ensure you are in overall good health. Reschedule if you have a cold, infection, or are feeling unwell.

6. Makeup:

   – Attend your appointment with a clean face. Remove all makeup and skincare products to provide a clear treatment area.

 Aftercare for Botox

1. Stay Upright:

   – Remain upright for at least 4 hours after treatment to prevent migration of the Botox to unintended areas.

2. Avoid Touching:

   – Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for at least 24 hours. This helps prevent Botox from moving away from the targeted muscles.

3. Exercise:

   – Avoid strenuous physical activity and exercise for at least 24 hours post-treatment.

4. Avoid Heat Exposure:

   – Skip saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds, and long sun exposure for the first 24 hours, as excessive heat can increase the risk of bruising.

5. Alcohol and Blood Thinners

   – Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications for at least 24 hours after treatment to minimize bruising and swelling.

6. Skincare Routine:

   – Resume regular skincare routine the next day but avoid facials, exfoliation, or harsh treatments for the first 24-48 hours.

7. Watch for Side Effects:

   – Mild bruising, swelling, or redness is normal. Contact your healthcare provider if you notice any severe side effects, such as difficulty breathing, swallowing, or severe headache.

8. Follow-Up Appointments:

   – Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments to evaluate the treatment results and maintain a proper treatment plan.

9. Results Timeframe:

   – Be patient as Botox results typically take 3-7 days to start becoming noticeable, and full effects develop over two weeks. Results usually last 3-4 months, depending on the individual.

Always follow specific instructions provided by Butterfly Aesthetics Medical Spa or your Botox provider, as they may have specific recommendations based on your individual needs and treatment plan.
